Mental Health and Wellbeing Vision Statement
Our school mission statement ‘each day in every way we all strive for excellence in teaching and learning, so that we all REACH our full potential in a happy, safe, healthy and caring environment.’ We are committed to the wellbeing of our children, families and staff and recognising the importance of promoting and protecting positive emotional wellbeing and mental health.
“Mental health is a state of wellbeing in which every individual realises his or her own potential, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and is able to make a contribution to her or his community.” (World Health Organisation 2014)
It is widely recognised that a child’s emotional health and wellbeing influences their cognitive development and learning, as well as their physical and social health and their mental wellbeing in adulthood. The department for Education recognises that in order to help pupils succeed: schools have a role to play in supporting them to be resilient and mentally healthy. Our vision is to continue to promote and develop the mental health and resilience of our staff, children, parents and carers. We believe having a mentally healthy community is not about being happy all of the time, but about working together through the challenges and sharing the celebrations; feeling supported, heard, accepted, valued and empowered. Guiding children through life’s storms we aim to support everyone’s emotional wellbeing and mental health so that they can be listened to, are happy together and ready to learn.
